I think the export controls on advanced chips are correct, I think Beijing’s technology apparatus serves an authoritarian state that will use every capability it acquires against people who can’t vote it out, and I’ve never found the argument that engagement moderates that state persuasive on any evidence I’ve seen. If you’re looking for someone to tell you the controls were a mistake, keep looking.
